Frocks Modern Bridesmaids, with locations in Vancouver and Calgary, was created to provide brides with a simple, classic gown with contemporary details.  You won’t find over-embellishment, but you will find beautiful fabrics, and flattering silhouettes, that lend well to personalizing with accessories.

In addition to Frocks’ unique bridal designers, Frocks has sourced accessories from a variety of talented designers from around the globe. We suggest brides add their own touch of sparkle, or whimsy to their look!

Frocks provides a boutique experience with a relaxed atmosphere.  Customer service is their first priority and they recommend making an appointment so they can provide one-on-one professional guidance throughout your appointment. Frocks’ tips for brides and bridesmaids to be

• Do some research! It is always helpful, both for you and your consultant at Frocks to have an idea of your wedding vision! Feel free to check out our designers (listed on our website) to get ideas, or to bring photos of dresses that appeal to you to your appointment!

• Give yourself lots of time! Not only does it sometimes take some time to find the perfect dress, it also takes time to bring the dress in! Frocks recommends ordering your dress approximately 5 months in advance. This means starting your dress search 8 months in advance will give you a comfortable amount of time to find the dress of your dreams!

• Try on everything! You may be surprised by what ends up looking the best on your body type, so trying on different silhouettes and styles, even the ones you initially hadn’t considered, can really help you get the best idea of what you do and don’t like in your wedding dress.

• Be prepared! Frocks recommends booking an appointment ahead of time so that we can be sure to have a fitting room available and a consultant dedicated to helping you. Also, it is always a good idea to bring a strapless bra, and your favourite pair of heels to your appointment!

• Consider your budget! It is a good idea to have a price in mind. Frocks bridal gowns can range anywhere from $300 to $3500 so letting your consultant know what your dress budget is helps them direct you towards the best dresses for you – and ensures you don’t fall in love with a dress that is beyond your budget!

• Limit the initial opinions! Frocks suggests bringing just a few close friends and family to your appointment, as having too many people accompany you often results in an over-whelming number of opinions.  Feel free to make a second appointment to bring other people in to see your favourite gowns.

• Ask questions!  Often dresses have customizable features – perhaps we can add straps, change the length, or have it made in a different colour or fabric. If there is anything that would turn a dress into the perfect dress for you, please do not hesitate to ask us!

• Stay true to yourself! While there can be pressure from friends and family when it comes to choosing your dress, it’s important to focus on your initial vision. After all, this is your day, and your dress. Make sure that you choose a dress you truly love and that suits both you and your wedding day.

The love story

Lan and Peng met in University.  When they first started dating, their favourite place to go was the dessert shops.  One day, Peng said to Lan “I can make desserts too, next time I’ll make some for you”.  This casual statement turned into a sweet promise.  Lan and Peng opened up their own dessert shop after they graduated.  Peng makes all the desserts, and Lan manages the shop.  Since the beginning, their relationship has always been filled with sweetness.

Thoughts from the photographer

Chris Hui:  This was my first time visiting Dong Guang.  I never felt so close to a client. I could feel their warmth at first sight. We joked around, ran around with the children, and talked about the recipes of traditional Chinese desserts.  I really felt like one of their family members, not just a photographer.

About the photographer

Influenced by his father’s love for photography, Chris Hui started photoshooting when he was very young.  He moved to the States when he was 15, where he experienced the cultural differences between Western and Asian weddings.  He truly believes that a wedding is a blissful occassion, and he wants to capture all the precious scenes so that 10, 20 years down the road, when couples look at their wedding photos, they will remember the beautiful times when they were first in love or first got married.

Chris is based in New York and China.  He is going to Paris this summer.  Chris is looking forward to more opportunities to capture destination weddings!

About Davie & Chiyo

Davie & Chiyo emerged in 2008 as a pet project for Vancouver sister duo, Fumi and Himi Bull. One a recent business school graduate and the other a stay-at­-home mom, they both had a passion for all things handmade.  They started small with a giftshop on Etsy selling handmade pouches and purses, and before they knew it were specializing in custom, one-of-a-kind clutches for every member of the bridal party. “We had never really planned on working in the bridal market – it found us.”

Fast-forward five years and what was once a one sewing machine operation has grown into a multi-machine studio, with two more team members under its belt.  Davie & Chiyo’s ultra-­femme line boasts lush bows, decadent silks, airy chiffons, ruffles, lace, and workmanship so refined it sets your heart aflutter. Their passion for evening and bridal designs has expanded beyond luxury clutches to include a line of head-to-toe accessories with a worldwide following.  When asked about what’s next for the bridal label, “We dream big, so the sky’s the limit.”

Inspiration and designs

Inspiration comes in many forms for Davie & Chiyo.  The small team of designers draw from of-the-moment fashion trends but also classic designs from different times and places.  This season they have looked to the Victorian era while designing their line of lace clutches, and Old Hollywood for their glamorous box clutch designs.

The bridal industry also plays a large part in their creative process, but even fabric shopping can provide plenty of inspiration.  “Just browsing aisles of prints and colors, you begin to imagine how things would look as part of a clutch.  You see fabrics in new ways and imagine clutches that you would have never thought of otherwise.”

Above all else, Davie & Chiyo stays true to their style, which is feminine but clean and polished.  “We like our clutches to look effortless and not over-worked – simplificty speaks volumes.”

Peach x Light Green

Peaches and Pinks aren’t going out of style anytime soon.  Mix peach with green to create the romantic “summery” atmosphere.  Adding shades of pink would create even more depth to this palette.
